QUIZ NIGHT

The next social event at OSBC will be the ever-popular quiz night on Saturday, 10th of October. The doors will open at 6pm and the quiz will start at 7pm - there will be a prize for the winning table.

We like teams to be made up of 4 people but if you are a single or a couple, we make up teams on the night. As usual there will be a raffle, and the food will be curry and jacket potatoes, the vegetarian option being cheese.

If you are coming along, please email the Secretary on lesley.osbc@btinternet.com, by Wednesday, 7th of October so that there is a rough idea of catering numbers. Can you also let her know if you would like the vegetarian food option.

Naturally the bar will be open, and this quiz will be run by Pete Buffery.

UPCOMING COMPETITIONS AT OSBC

OSBC is host to two of the last competitions of the season.

Sunday, 27th of September - Wem League Consolation Cup/Elizabeth Taylor Cup. This competition starts at 2pm and both greens will be in use.

Sunday, 4th of October - Wem League Knockout Cup/Barry Jenning Cup. This competition also starts at 2pm and there will be an official presentation after the final game.

Naturally, the bar will be open!

BILLY FRANCIS MEMORIAL COMPETITION

Martin Francis gave the following message after this event in memory of his father:

"We held the 2nd year of the Bill Francis Memorial Bowls Competition... again kindly hosted by Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club. Another fantastic day with Dad shining down on us - glorious weather and some top bowls played in a 32 strong field. Most importantly £474 raised for Severn Hospice, which was an improvement on last year.

Well done to Shaun Braddock-Bould for winning the main competition and many thanks for donating his prize money to Severn Hospice. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day - bar staff Debbie Davies and Sue Burroughs, Terry Evans for doing great food as always, Margaret Ramsey and Debbie Riley who sold raffle tickets all day, my niece Annabel for baking cakes, everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes, a donation from Castlefields bowling club, and Rich Jones for cutting the greens. Big thanks to Tim Robbins who basically organises everything!!!"

It was a hot and long day but the overall result was excellent and there are plans to hold the competition again next year - a fitting tribute for Billy. A thank you to all OSBC members who also helped on the day.

SOCIAL EVENTS AT OSBC

Here are dates for various social events that will be held at the club from now until Christmas.

10th October - Quiz night - your quiz master will be Peter Buffrey and there will be food available as usual.

14th November - Music Bingo - hosted by Steve Foskett with Sue Burroughs assisting - this is something that we have not had before but it should prove interesting.

29th November - Christmas Fayre - with Father Christmas!! Debbie Davies is the organiser so if you have ideas for a stall etc., please let her know.

12th December - the Christmas Quiz with mulled wine, mince pies and general goodwill to all members 🙂
